In a mixing bowl, combine 2 Tbsp. cornstarch, 1 tsp. baking soda*, 2 Tbsp. water and 2-3 garlic clove until smooth.Proceed to cut into 3 inch strips the 450 g boneless round steak and toss in the mix. Use your hands to gently cover the strips with the mix.Why add baking soda? Baking soda helps tenderize the beef but also creates a desirable texture when stir-frying.
In a large frying pan over medium-high heat, stir-fry beef mix in 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil about 10 minutes or until beef reaches desired doneness. Remove and set aside.
The Frying
Stir-fry 1 yellow onion in the remaining 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil for 5 minutes or until softened.Add the 300 g broccoli florets and cook for 3 minutes until the broccoli is tender but still crisp. Return beef to pan.
In another mixing bowl, combine 3 Tbsp. soy sauce, 2 Tbsp. brown sugar, 1 tsp. ginger and remaining 1 Tbsp. cornstarch and 1/2 cup water until smooth. Add to the pan with the beef and brocoli and let it cook while stirring for 2 minutes.
The Serving
Serve over hot cooked rice and garnish with roasted white sesame seeds.
